I have trust issues. Now, I don’t mean that I have problems trusting people in my life to follow through on their commitments or to be who they say they are; I am actually really good at trusting for people to do that. When I say that I have trust issues, I really mean that I have a problem with letting go of my life and letting God work through me. And I have a feeling that I am not alone in that struggle.
We as humans often have a problem worrying about the little things in life. For example, the other day I was freaking out because I didn’t know what kind of job I would have this summer. I am a college student and need to be able to have at least one job this summer so I can continue my education next year. As I went through a mental list of all of my possible summer jobs and ministry opportunities, I got even more anxious about not knowing where God was calling me. I started to pray that God would guide me, and I felt God say to me, “Oh ye of little faith.” That phrase has been so powerful to me in my life. When something goes on that I cannot understand, like a friend or family member passing away, or when I just have no idea what to do with my major or my money, I can hear the sweet laugh of God whispering to me, “Oh ye of little faith, why can’t you just trust me?”
I feel like sometimes we ask God a lot of questions but never wait and trust Him for the answers. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” This verse is a constant reminder to me that God is in control, and I am so glad He is. If God was not in control of my life, I would be constantly overwhelmed. But when I know that I can trust God in every aspect of my life, I am filled with His peace. Jeremiah 29:11-13 says:
“’I say this because I know what I am planning for you’, declares the Lord. ‘I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you; I will give you hope and a good future. Then you will call my name. You will come to me and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will search for me. And when you search for me with all of your heart, you will find me!’”
When we search for Him and His plan, when we desire to live within God’s will, He will reveal himself to us. However, we have to search for Him with all our hearts, and then we will find Him. God alone will provide us peace.
How are you trusting God in your life? For your finances? For your future? For your family and your health? Be at peace and know that God is bigger than our problems, and He is waiting for you to seek Him.
